Dear Colleagues and Friends of ASID,

I have great pleasure in announcing the ASID III Congress “Ithemba Le Afrika” which will be held in South Africa June 6-9, 2013 at Sun City.

Africa faces many challenges in providing healthcare and especially so for Primary Immunodeficiencies which are conventionally regarded as rare in the context of the epidemics of Malaria, Tuberculosis, HIV and other prevalent diseases.

Hence the Congress motive “Hope for Africa” was chosen. The African Society for Immundodeficiencies, the Allergy Society of South Africa, and the Thoracic Society and Pulmonology Society of South Africa have joined hands and forces to host a combined congress to share science and address the medical issues and needs of our patients.

Africa while facing many challenges has many resources too, not only raw materials but also human resources of ingenuity and resilience. South Africa has both natural resources and technology to provide the basis for first world medicine. However we have a long way to go to provide equitable health for all and toward becoming a resource for less advantaged countries in Africa.

Networking and collaboration between and in Africa with our colleagues in Europe, North and South America and even the Far East has marked the beginning steps of ASID and we need to strengthen and develop these collaborations further.

We invite you from near and far to come to the ASID III Congress in South Africa to continue in line with our mission announced at ASID II of a “Call for Action for Africa” for Primary Immunodeficiency.

ASID : Young Groups - 2009

Dear ASID members,

It is a great honor for me to take the office as President of our Society.

ASID is now 5 years old and well established as the only global representative of the PID community in Africa.

Each past ASID meeting has been the occasion to reinforce and extend the network between African physicians involved in the care of Primary Immunodeficiency patients and we feel now already mature and ready for the next challenges.

I am very proud and honored to be the fourth president of ASID for the next two years and it is my pleasure all together with the president elect , the new board members and the Algerian organizing committee to welcome you to the next ASID congress which will be held in Algiers ALGERIA on 27-29 May 2015.
